I want to get skinny for summer!

There are as many ways to lose weight as there are people on this earth. We, at Family Doctors of Green Valley, have heard most of them.  Avoid carbs…eat 6x per day…be a vegetarian...eat raw foods…drink 6 glasses of cold water daily…avoid eating at night, etc. But what does the science tell us?

A large landmark study of 30,000 participants done by the National Institute of Health has given us some insight. The results demonstrate from this large meta-analysis that there are some key things to do to lose weight. What is number one on the list? You won’t believe this, but it is to cut calories! Yes, we must stop eating! The data suggests 1200 Kcal per day for women and 1500 kcal per day for men are optimal for weight loss. (Kcal means calories).  Now this may seem like a lot but it isn’t.  McDonald’s Big Mac, large fries and a large coke is about 1300 calories in one meal!
